Introduction
So, a HF high power tuner it will be. The first question is, will it be an unbalanced (unsymmetrical) or a balanced (symmetrical) tuner. Well, I read a lot of literature about this on the internet, and I have experience with my own tuner (MJF-929), which an unbalanced one . This unit is in the shack and is directly connected to my set. Then a 17 meter long coax cable (Aircell7), followed by a balun, a chicken ladder of 5 meter, and a dipole antenna of two times 7.5 meter. At the ends two coils, followed by 2.5 meter wire. At the beginning of the coils and at the end of the wire, little wires are added, to tune the 40 and 80 meter to an optimum, which is still not very good.
Reason,....SWR is not well over the entire band, especially 80m because of the coils (high Q). The SWR is tuned by the MFJ-929, but a lot of energy is burned in the coax, I am afraid. And the chicken ladder is not well either, too short, etc.,...etc.
So I am going to make a HF high power tuner, which is symmetrical. And I am going to change my antenna. High power balun, better ladder, and preferably longer wires, without coils.
In this part of my website I will describe my efforts to build the tuner.
