- Why an amplifier ?
- I started to think about the amplifier beginning of November 2019
- I work with a Yeasu FT-950 which can do a max of 100 Wat. I work both in voice, cw and ft8. Basically the 100W is OK
- But, my dream is to work with Papua (former New Guinea) preferably in voice or cw with amateur friends in Merauke. Digital modes is not a problem (ft8).
- Why ?,......I was born there in 1953, in Merauke.
- And then the 100W is marginal
- My G5 has an swr of 1:4 on 20m, SO
- I made a DIY 20m inverted V on my roof at about 9m (top), with a (big, for 800W) balun
- It works far better than the G5, it transmits 8-10 dB more energy than the G5
- My other problem is that I live in a crowded neighborhood with high man-made noise level, and lots of QRM
- Did you heard this before, build a websdr in a rural area, like I did with a radio friend (PA0SIM). It is close to my home and works great. It is public since beginning of 2020. Look at websdrmaasbree.nl.
- The plan is now to listen to the websdr, and to transmit from my home QTH, with the mono band 20m inverted V.
- And build an amplifier to enable the pretty long distance to Merauke
- That will keep me of the streets for a while, I guess.
